Sunday School for Children
The Ananda Sunday School program is designed for children of all ages. All activities are based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda. During the course of the year we explore the lives of Yogananda, his lineage, as well as saints of many traditions. As we learn about their lives, we also discover the secrets of their teachings, and the attitudes that lead to happy and successful lives. Parents are always welcome to join.
The children begin each Sunday with their parents in the temple for an opening prayer, music by the choir and chanting. After the first chant they are escorted to the Sunday school room.
They begin Sunday School with awakening enthusiasm through the Super Conscious Living Exercises, followed by focusing attention through Yoga, Chanting and Meditation. Often they share their inspiration and joy with others through healing prayers. Then comes the lesson plan, which includes stories, hands on activities and a craft project, all geared towards a specific theme for the week. At the end of class the children return to the Temple Sanctuary where they are given the opportunity to participate in the blessing of the Festival of Light.
The Sunday School Teachers have been trained in the principals of Yoga and Education for Life. Each teacher has-practiced the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda for many years. They bring a variety of unique experiences to the classroom. Each class has one teacher and one assistant present at all times.
Ananda Seattle and its members have established the Living Wisdom School of Seattle, located in Shoreline. This non-denominational school utilizes the Spirit and heart-centered approach of the Education for Life system to energize, inspire, and educate children to realize their own highest potential both as children and later as adults.
